Colombia: Peacebuilding and the Persistence of Violence, Inaugural Conference
This inaugural event launches a virtual three-day symposium, Colombia: Peacebuilding and the Persistence of Violence, which brings together academics, practitioners, civil society and civic leaders to discuss the past, present and futures of Colombia. It sheds light on the country’s long experience with internal armed conflict, its recent effort to transition to a post-conflict stage, and the challenges and opportunities that the present juncture implies for the success of enduring peacebuilding efforts.
This panel will be held in Spanish. Simultaneous English interpretation will be available.
Public event on Colombia’s peace building challenges and opportunities, and a discussion of how the COVID-19 pandemic might affect the peace building efforts. The keynote speakers are two key figures in the field of peacebuilding and right to the truth in Colombia. The event will welcome academics, practitioners, students and other public interested in Colombia.

This event is organized by the Colombian Studies Initiative: Past, Present and Futures, a collaboration between New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) and Universidad del Rosario. The Initiative aims to create an Inter-American hub for research, multidisciplinary conversations and exchange of knowledge concerning Colombia. It supports dialogue, inquiry, and research for US, Colombian, and international scholars, students, NGOs practitioners, and the general public interested in Colombia.
Esta sesión inaugural es parte del simposio Colombia: Construcción de Paz y Persistencia de la Violencia el cual se realizará del 19-21 de Noviembre.
Este simposio sirve de espacio de encuentro y discusión entre líderes cívicos, sociales, políticos y académicos para discutir el pasado, presente y futuros de Colombia. Explora la larga experiencia de Colombia con el conflicto armado interno, los esfuerzos recientes en la transición a una etapa de post-acuerdo y los desafíos y posibilidades que la actual coyuntura implica para los esfuerzos de construcción de una paz duradera en Colombia.
