Private - NYU CommunityMeet Laura Kavanagh, NYU Wagner’s Distinguished Visiting Urbanist and the groundbreaking former NYC Fire Commissioner. On December 3, join us for a dynamic virtual conversation with the first woman—and youngest leader in over a century—to helm the nation’s largest fire department. Kavanagh will share insights from nearly two decades in public service, from steering FDNY through major crises to shaping citywide policies like universal pre-K and mental-health response. She’ll also take your questions and offer a first look at her Spring 2026 course, Topics in Urban Studies: Girl on Fire - How Ordinary People Become Extraordinary Leaders.
