FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez
Please join the NYU Rudin Center for a keynote address by Nuria Fernandez, Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and esteemed transportation expert. With more than 35 years of experience, Fernandez has emerged as an inspiring leader in the transportation industry, holding leadership positions at some of the busiest transit agencies in America. She has overseen projects, programs, and transit services that provide mobility solutions to millions of people.
Fernandez was sworn in as FTA Administrator in June 2021 after serving as General Manager and CEO of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, where she oversaw projects, programs and transit services for more than two million people in the Silicon Valley. She has also been a leader in several of the nation’s largest transit agencies, including New York MTA, CTA in Chicago and WMATA in Washington, D.C.
Administrator Fernandez has worked with the National Women's Political Caucus, the Women's Transportation Seminar, Women in Transit, and Dialogue on Diversity. Lead by a strong belief that she should "give back" to her community, she has also served as a mentor for the Washington Center's "Women as Leaders" seminar. Through this program, she is able to guide and nurture female students from colleges nationwide who aspire to professional careers and leadership roles in their communities.
She holds a B.A. in Civil Engineering from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, and an M.B.A. from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
