The Future of Micromobility in New York City

Shared bicycle and electric scooter services have expanded in cities across the world. Data from tens of millions of trips indicate that shared e-scooters are replacing a large share of short car trips. Meanwhile, Citi Bike, which recently celebrated its 60 millionth trip, has grown in popularity, often as a solution for first and last mile trips.



However, e-scooters and e-bikes generate conflict in many cities including New York City. The City Council and State Legislature are both considering bills that would define the vehicles, set basic regulations and potentially authorize an e-scooter pilot in New York City.



To understand these shared modes’ benefits and challenges, and to examine the safety, equity, data and sustainability implications of their wider use, the NYU Rudin Center for Transportation will host a panel discussion on June 10, 2019.
