Presented by Wagner Food Policy Alliance
Date:
October 25, 2021Time:
6:15pm - 7:45pmLocation:
411 Lafayette Street, 411 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10003
Audience:
PrivateThroughout New York City's history, immigrants with few economic opportunities found themselves immersed in the precarious world of outdoor vending. Join us for a stroll through the Lower East Side as we unpack xenophobia, economic insecurity, racial discord and financial livelihoods.
We will meet in front of 411 Lafayette. From there we will walk to Essex and Grand, with discussion stops along the way (Cooper Union, The Bowery shelters, Chinatown). We will then meander to the New Essex Street Market to pick up some food samples and then walk to the original market. We'll end with a talk about the Street Vendor Project, challenges around regulations, permits, the restaurant/vendor divide etc.
NYU Wagner provides reasonable accommodations to people with disabilities.
