Immigration policy has been a prominent political topic ever since the previous presidential race. Often absent from this conversation, though, is the connection between immigration policy and food policy. In a country where 71 percent of farmworkers are foreign-born or immigrants and play an invaluable role in our food and agricultural system, it is essential to understand the links between the current immigration policies put forth by the Trump administration and the food and agricultural system in the United States. Our panelists will discuss the H2A visa program and its historical context, current campaigns to support immigrant food workers, and how current immigration policy proposals might specifically affect the lives of food system workers.
