Jed Kolko served as the U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs in the Biden Administration. In that role he was the principal economic advisor to Secretary Gina Raimondo, launched the Regional Economic Research Initiative, and oversaw the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Previously he was chief economist at Indeed and at Trulia, a regular contributor to the New York Times’ Upshot section, and a board director of the National Association for Business Economics and the California Budget and Policy Center.
His research spans employment, housing, local economic development, and technology issues, and he has led teams that created widely used economic indicators based on proprietary data.
He earned his A.B. in social studies and his Ph.D. in economics at Harvard University.
