Sam VanNorman is the Chief Analytics Officer (CAO) at Signify Health, a CVS company. In his role, he leads analytics strategy and operations to support all aspects of the business, including Home and Community Services (HCS), Value-based Care Solutions (VCS) and emerging businesses.
Prior to Bright, Sam led analytics at Bright Health Group and Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and he held multiple leadership roles at Optum including leading an internal startup as the General Manger and Vice President of Managed Analytics and leading the national healthcare economics and analytics program for Optum’s care delivery groups. Previously, he led analytics and population health programs at Park Nicollet-HealthPartners and co-led the Innovation Center at Hennepin County Medical Center. Sam also served on the board of Accra, a Minnesota-based not-for-profit providing individualized services and support to people with disabilities at home in the community. Prior to working in healthcare, Sam designed microchips for IBM and two startups.
Sam has a wide ranging background in healthcare, including work in finance, operations, quality improvement, innovation and economics at payer, provider and life sciences organizations. Sam has held positions on state and national government committees, advising on accountable care organizations (ACOs), quality measurement and healthcare information technology (HIT). Sam also taught graduate health economics at St. Cloud State University, and he was a contributing author for the 2014 HIMSS Book of the Year, Analytics in Healthcare: An Introduction.
In his spare time, he helps lead a Scouts BSA troop and coaches robotics teams. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Purdue University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina and a Master’s degree in Health Services Research from the University of Minnesota. He is also a graduate of the Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Training Program (ATP).
