The General Board of Global Ministries conducts off-site training to supplement the work of existing human service activities in developing countries. The intent of the off-site training is to foster self-reliance and better health through means that are appropriate to the local situation. Begun in Jamkhed, India and now used world-wide, the Capstone team was asked to look at the impact of this training in Nicaragua. In particular, the Capstone team was asked to evaluate the success of these workshops in terms of relevance to the trainees, the organization they work for, and the populations they serve. In order to do this, the Capstone team researched the Nicaraguan Healthcare system, the goals of the training program, and conducted an extensive on site visit in Nicaragua which included meetings with trainees, program administrators and local elected officials. Based on the data collected, the Capstone team presented the General Board of Global Ministries its analysis of the impact of off-site training in Nicaragua.
