Urban Resource Institute (URI) is a New York City nonprofit organization that provides shelter, housing, legal services, counseling, and other support services to survivors of domestic violence, homelessness, and other trauma. As URI has grown across programs, its post-award grant management processes have remained fragmented across departments, limiting consistency in documentation, coordination, and compliance. URI enlisted the Capstone team to assess its current grant management practices and develop a more standardized and sustainable approach to post-award grant management. The team reviewed internal documents and existing workflows, interviewed staff across departments, and researched peer nonprofit practices. Based on these findings, the team developed recommendations to improve coordination, clarify workflow ownership, and create more consistent systems for the grant management process. The team’s final deliverables will include a Grants Management Process Manual, workflow diagrams, templates, and a final report with recommendations.
