KIHMI x NYU
KIHMI is a community development-based organization in Juan De Acosta and Algarrobo, Colombia, that provides educational and psychosocial initiatives, such as Telas Que Cuidan, El Jardin, and Vida Estilo K, to support families and community members affected by Huntington’s Disease. By teaching skills like pattern-making and gardening, they’ve fostered an environment of empowerment, inclusion, and community support. The communities have limited access to psychosocial support for women and caregivers, partly due to a lack of resources and the stigma surrounding the disease, making KIHMI’s work crucial.
Our Capstone Team was asked to develop an impact evaluation toolkit, but found it infeasible due to inconsistent data-collection standards. In response, our team traveled to Colombia and gathered feedback from KIHMI participants through interviews and observations. We recommend developing a data collection toolkit that includes standardized templates, interview questions, and a youth volunteer framework, so that KIHMI has the tools to conduct an impact evaluation in the future.
