The Resident identified areas of interest and organizational need and took on various projects working with the Vice-President of Operations, the Director of Marketing, the IT Site Director, Patient Care Directors and the Director of Support Services. Recognizing the strategic importance of the World Wide Web in attracting tertiary care patients, the Resident developed and initiated the implementation of a Strategic Internet Plan for the hospital’s web site, coordinated content update, collaborated in the redesign of the homepage, and participated in the hiring process for a web coordinator. In preparation for JCAHO accreditation, the Resident examined employee familiarity with hospital policies and procedures and managed progress reporting documentation for executive management. In addition to analyzing benchmark statistics and work flow processes for various departments to identify areas of opportunity, the Resident prepared and presented discharge time reports to division leaders, Medical Directors and Chiefs. In the Emergency Department, the Resident implemented a web-based patient tracking system and trained users. To minimize cancellation rates in the MRI suite, the Resident created information materials for MRI patients and referring physicians, and examined best practices in scheduling at peer institutions.
