The resident’s responsibilities and projects included: interviewing and shadowing key executives for broader exposure and a better understanding of communications pertinent to the functionality of academic medical centers; coordinating data for metrics scorecard and providing recommendations into school policy; preparing and presenting reports, tables, schematics, written narratives, grant trends, and financial projections based on variances and sensitivity analysis; helping design and draft two strategic plans under the direction of the Associate Dean and Director; promoting the department’s role as internal consultant using Microsoft Project as a tool for prioritizing and implementing administrative goals and objectives; assisting in the extraction of information from multiple database systems from varying disciplines for purposes of strategic planning; and providing ongoing staff support while managing multiple timetables for concurrent departmental projects. The resident also supported the implementation of a new managerial tool for the recruitment process (as it transitioned from paper version to the online version), which involved notifying key stakeholders as well as maintaining the database. She also assisted in evaluating the effectiveness of training sessions during the implementation of this process.
