Strategic Decision-Making Through Evidence-Based Management (EMB)
In Healthcare Hero, round one involved Capstone students competing against each other, representing two hospitals in an 800,000-resident community over six years. This simulation mattered because sustainably delivering high-quality care to the largest share of admissions requires balancing human resource capacity and economic viability amid internal constraints and external competition. The students were tasked with designing a strategy to optimize operations, maximize admissions, and ensure financial stability, applying evidence-based management practices while analyzing financial data, surgical volumes, resource utilization, and stakeholder feedback to refine workflows and performance. In round two, students worked as a team in assigned leadership roles, developing and sustaining a strategic turnaround plan over five quarters for a hospital facing operational and quality challenges.
