What is the Institute for Human Development and Social Change?

A university-wide, multidisciplinary enterprise, the Institute of Human Development and Social Change was founded by former Wagner Dean and NYU Executive Vice President Robert Berne, the Aaron Diamond Foundation's Norm Fruchter, and NYU Steinhardt School of Education Dean Ann Marcus.

The Institute  aims to inspire, support, and amplify innovative and equity-driven scholarly research through excellence in individualized grant administration and research development, community engagement, and the promotion of evidence-based research products. By prioritizing principles of equity, collaboration, and interdisciplinarity, we strive to stimulate social impact locally and globally.

We cultivate an intellectual community focused on issues related to poverty and inequality, education and child development, health and wellbeing, and social policy in local, national, and global contexts.
