EMPA Program Hosts Toast and Tour as Part of NYU Alumni and Families Weekend
On October 26, 2024, the EMPA program hosted its Alumni Toast and Tour as part of NYU's Alumni and Families Weekend. The event brought together 24 alumni, including 21 from the EMPA program, for a special tour of the new Wagner building, offering a chance to reconnect and engage with fellow alumni and program leaders.
Attendees had the opportunity to network with Program Director Judy Pryor-Ramirez, Director of Alumni and Student Engagement Katja Kurz, and Associate Director of Advisement and Student Services Scott Statland. The atmosphere was vibrant as alumni shared stories, insights, and experiences, reinforcing the strong connections forged during their time at Wagner.
Reed Vreeland (EMPA 2023) reflected on the impact of these connections. “The connection with other EMPA alumni has been life-changing,” he said. “Reconnecting to discuss leadership challenges and support each other’s public service careers makes it easier to stay committed to my healthcare policy work. I’m inspired by the updates, challenges, and breakthroughs shared within our community.”
Chinwe Anyika (EMPA 2024) echoed Vreeland’s sentiments. “The EMPA community means friendship and authenticity,” she said. “I’ve made lifelong friends who make time for meaningful discussions, bringing a sense of normalcy and self-care amid busy schedules. Our connections help balance work with personal growth, which is invaluable at this stage of life.”
The evening concluded with a toast to the future, celebrating the achievements of alumni and their ongoing commitment to public service. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement about future gatherings and continued engagement within the EMPA community.
