Following opening remarks from Dean Sherry Glied, Jazmin Kay (MPA 2025) addressed the Class of 2025, emphasizing the importance of the work the graduates are poised to do at this critical juncture. “We need people who don’t just know how to lead, but are rooted in values of fairness, justice, equity, and service of something larger than themselves,” she said.

Chief Operating Officer of the New York Public Library and NYU Wagner Distinguished Visiting Urbanist Iris Weinshall delivered the keynote speech, underscoring that there is “dignity in serving the public.” Addressing the graduates, she noted, “We need you more than ever.”

Additionally, 21 Wagner graduates were recognized for their extraordinary accomplishments in academics, service, and dedication to the Wagner community with special student awards. Carla Jackie Sampson (Clinical Professor of Healthcare Management and Public Service and Director of Health Policy and Management Program and online Master of Health Administration Program) was named Professor of the Year, honoring her commitment to the growth of Wagner’s health programs and her dedication to her students’ success. Adjunct Professor of Public Service and Founder of Arlo Labs Carolyn Hou was named Adjunct Professor of the Year for her innovative approach to teaching.

Following the ceremony, graduates and their loved ones adjourned to Wagner’s new home on E 17th Street for a celebratory reception—the first of its kind in the space. The Class of 2025 will always hold a special place in Wagner history as the only class to experience Wagner life at both the Puck Building and 105 E 17th Street. Their contributions to the Wagner community will leave a lasting legacy as they embark on their journey to serve the greater good at a pivotal moment in public service.
