Irfan Hasan (MPA 2000) Named to City & State’s 2025 Trailblazers in Health Care
City & State’s inaugural Trailblazers in Health Care honors exceptional individuals who are transforming the health landscape in New York and beyond. Among this year’s honorees is NYU Wagner alumnus Irfan Hasan, whose dedication to equitable health care access has made a significant impact on underserved communities.

As vice president at The New York Community Trust, Irfan Hasan leads groundbreaking health-related grantmaking initiatives. In 2021, Hasan allocated $1 million in grants to combat COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, focusing on communities disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Recently, with the rise in migration to New York, Hasan has directed resources to ensure arriving migrants receive vaccinations.
His leadership extends to advancing reproductive health and cutting-edge scientific research. Hasan has supported the New York Birth Control Access Project, advocating for policies that expand access to hormonal-based birth control. Additionally, he has overseen funding for the New York Stem Cell Foundation, enabling the creation of the nation’s first ethnically diverse stem cell biobank.
