Julie Shahroudi (MPA-HPAM 2009) Helps Lead NYU Student Health Center to National Recognition for Quality Improvement

Dr. Julie Shahroudi (MPA-HPAM 2009), assistant director of quality improvement, has helped lead the NYU Student Health Center (NYU SHC) to national recognition as a finalist for the 2025 Bernard A. Kershner Innovations in Quality Improvement Award from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This is the second straight year NYU has been recognized as a finalist.
The award, named in memory of a former chair of the Board of Trustees of the AAAHC, recognizes AAAHC-accredited organizations that have made significant strides in quality improvement to enhance quality of care, patient safety, and organizational efficiency.
This year, Dr. Shahroudi, who also serves as an adjunct professor at NYU Wagner, helped spearhead the NYU SHC project entitled, “Closing the Immunization Gap: A Quality Improvement Initiative to Increase Vaccine Uptake in Student Health,” focusing on NYU’s Brooklyn campus. The initiative was named one of three finalists in the Primary Care category—selected from among all AAAHC-accredited organizations across the country. The winner will be announced at the AAAHC’s annual conference in December.
“This recognition from AAAHC is deeply meaningful for our team at the NYU Student Health Center's Brooklyn campus,” said Dr. Shahroudi. “Through this project, we strengthened student access to preventive care by improving education and uptake of key immunizations, including HPV (which helps prevent certain cancers) and Tdap (which protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis). It reflects our shared commitment to advancing student health and demonstrates how quality improvement can create lasting impact within a campus health setting.”
Last year, the NYU SHC was named a finalist for its work on improving depression screening in primary care.
