‘Service to Service’ initiative aims to build a cadre of graduate students who will take up leadership positions in state and local government nationwide.

Press Release

The Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University has been chosen to participate in Service to Service, a dynamic professional learning community of schools of public service across the country that is building a well-prepared cadre of veterans and military family members to assume leadership careers in state and local government.

Through Service to Service, launched in October 2024, Wagner will work with the Volcker Alliance to increase awareness of public service career opportunities among the military community, enroll military-connected students in master’s programs at schools of public service, and connect participants to state and local government careers following degree attainment.

“At NYU Wagner, we proudly honor the dedication, resilience, and leadership that American veterans and service members bring to the classroom,” said Polly Trottenberg, dean and global distinguished professor. “We are thrilled to join the Service to Service initiative as a partner school in our continued commitment to supporting service members academically and professionally for impactful careers in public service.”

The Volcker Alliance and We the Veterans and Military Families (WtVMF) notified Wagner of its selection in the dynamic professional learning community of schools of public service across the United States.

Participating schools work to increase the number of military-connected students enrolled in their respective master’s programs, augmenting their master’s programs’ additional supports, resources, and professional development experiences for their veteran and military family students, and helping these students connect to job placements in state and local government upon degree completion.

A core cohort of at least five graduate students will be enrolled by each participating school as of September 2026. Veterans and military-connected students interested in NYU Wagner programs may learn more about benefits on the Wagner website.
