Report Spotlights 15 Most Innovative Urban Policy Initiatives Globally

Top 15 Urban Policy Initiatives

What are the 15 most innovative policy initiatives under way in cities around the world?

Offering a fresh approach, these promising programs – potential models and inspirations across geographies and sectors – are identified in a new report by Wagner Innovation Labs and the Center for an Urban Future.

The report is coauthored by NYU Wagner’s Neil Kleiman, director of the school’s Innovation Labs.

To cite one example: the Five Keys Charter School, opened by San Francisco’s sheriff’s office, is the first public high school inside a U.S. jail. The Charter School helps inmates and the previously incarcerated to earn high school diplomas and improve their job prospects. The school lowers recidivism rates, ending the "merry-go-round of release, re-offense, and further punishment," which costs public money and does little to cut crime levels.
