Task Force Co-Chaired by NYU Wagner Student Issues New Report on Atlanta City Jail
Bill McGahan, a student in the Executive MPA program at NYU Wagner, co-chairs an Atlanta task force that has produced a major report, "Reimagining the Atlanta Detention Center," moving the city toward community-centered approaches to crime prevention. McGahan heads the nonprofit Georgia Works! The 26-page report delivered to Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms on June 12 calls for demolishing the Atlanta city jail and replacing it with a "Center for Equity" that would help address Atlanta residents' needs. The report was based on meetings with criminal justice experts, community residents, and stakeholders.
