MUP - 2015
How did you find your first post-Wagner job?
I didn’t find my first post-Wagner job; I’m lucky to say that my first job found me. I flew back to Abu Dhabi to do my summer internship and the fact that I was doing my Master of Urban Planning degree in New York City impressed a lot of people. A few months later, I got interviewed at 1:00am via Skype, and I got the job before I officially graduated from NYU Wagner.
How did your Wagner experience prepare you professionally for what you are doing today?
I specialized in MUP's International Development Planning, and a lot of the most important lessons that stuck with me were reflections from my NYU Wagner professors and graduate students who come from different corners of the world. Working for Research and Development requires me to be up to speed with urban trends and innovations worldwide. There was no better place to learn the ropes than amongst my NYU Wagner community.
Describe your current job.
I’m currently Acting Section Head of Research and Development at Abu Dhabi’s Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities. A decree was recently issued to re-establish the research and development team, and I was offered the opportunity to lead it. Therefore, I’m responsible to rebuild the unit from the ground up and impact Abu Dhabi planning one idea at a time.
