How did being in New York impact your professional journey?
Being in New York was a critical factor for me. I had worked in a number of different states on political campaigns at the state and federal level, and I'd come to realize that New York City was where I wanted to be. What better place to study than the place you want to live and work?
Describe your current job.
I am a Unit Head at the New York City Office of Management and Budget, which is a part of the Mayor's Office, responsible for preparing and updating the City's annual budget. I focus on the Department of Correction, responsible for NYC's jails, including Rikers Island, and other criminal justice agencies. I manage a team of analysts, and we work closely with colleagues at other City agencies and the City Council to make sure that resources are available for agencies to pursue their missions while keeping NYC fiscally sound.
What are the advantages of the Wagner alumni network?
A number of my colleagues at OMB are Wagner alumni, and I see them frequently. Having a common academic background is helpful as we work together professionally. Wagner alumni also go on to a number of careers outside government, and I'm always interested to hear about what they're doing and share ideas.
