Join us for the opening of Selgas & the Escher Effect, 1974-2018, the Fall 2018 exhibition at the Gallery Space at Wagner. With this retrospective look at the art of acclaimed Cuban and queer artist Cepp Selgas, NYU Wagner proudly joins New York University’s celebration of Latino Heritage Month. Curated by Frankie Crescioni-Santoni and Gustavo Valdés-Rivera, the show focuses on Selgas' body of work inspired by graphic art master M.C. Escher. The selected paintings and works on paper highlight the artist's inventive and meticulous application of tessellation techniques to a variety of iconographic imagery from his native Cuba. Cultural, religious, and political motifs referencing his Caribbean heritage are prominent throughout the display.
