NYU Wagner visiting fellow and adjunct lecturer, Shola Olatoye discusses lessons learned and best practices managing a complex public agency, nonprofit and private enterprise.
Shola Olatoye is a Visiting Scholar at NYU Wagner. She served as the 22nd Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Appointed by Mayor de Blasio in 2014, Shola developed the Agency’s groundbreaking 10-year turnaround plan and balanced the $3.1 Billion operating budget for three consecutive years. She also launched the largest public housing real estate development program in the country, securing approximately $1.5 Billion in financing for more than 15,000 new construction and rehabilitation units. Before her government service, Shola was Vice President and New York market leader for Enterprise Community Partners, a national affordable housing organization dedicated to investing in affordable housing and community development.
