Members of the Wagner community will come together to address the importance of and solutions to Federal Government shutdowns. Finalists in this year's Policy Memo Competition will present their original research to their peers, as well as a panel of Wagner faculty and practitioners.

The recent US Federal shutdown captured the attention of the nation: the shutdown’s direct and indirect impacts were felt in nearly every area of the public and private sector and by millions of people. While a temporary deal has been reached, further shutdowns impacting wider society remain a concern. The 35-day shutdown is the longest in US history and the third since January 2018. With temporary deals in place, the possibility of additional shutdowns is likely. As policy students from different specializations, we want to hear your ideas about how to address future shutdowns.

“As future policymakers and nonprofit leaders, what are your solutions to prevent or mitigate the negative impacts of a Federal Government shutdown?”
