Alexia Nazarian is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Service teaching public policy in the undergraduate program.
She is also a manager at Bloomberg Associates, the pro-bono consulting arm of Bloomberg Philanthropies that serves Mayors in meeting their unique municipal challenges. On the economic development team, Alexia advises both domestic and international mayoral administrations on projects that drive economic growth, support vibrant neighborhoods and commercial districts, and encourage economic mobility. Focused on creating inclusive economic growth for historically marginalized communities, Alexia is driven by data analysis with an eye toward implementation. Her work spans small business and neighborhood development, workforce development, improving government services, sector-based business attraction and retention, and equity in public sector procurement.
Alexia previously served as a Senior Project Manager at Empire State Development, New York State’s chief economic development arm. She also held positions at the Manhattan Borough President’s Office, the Urban Land Institute, and at HR&A Advisors, an industry-leader in economic development, real estate, and urban policy consulting.
A first-generation multilingual Armenian-American, Alexia holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University in sociology and Master of Public Administration from NYU’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, where she was a writing tutor, research assistant, and received the President’s Service Award. She was also a Vote2020 Fellow, where she led a bi-lingual press strategy for Mi Familia Vota in key battleground states for the 2020 presidential election. She is a member of Open New York, a pro-housing advocacy organization.
