Lieutenant Colonel Chani A. Cordero is the Chief Operating Officer for Presidio of Monterey Health Services she is directly responsible for the day to day operations and improvement of several primary care clinics and responsible for creating patient care access for acute and routine appointments for over 7,000 beneficiaries. Responsible for division leaders in establishing a measure of performance, increase productivity, quality improvement, cost controls and efficient utilization of facilities. Direct reports include information technology, facilities, human resources, budget, health information management, and managed care.
Chani entered active duty in 2000 as a Second Lieutenant. Throughout her career as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the US Army, she has served in various leadership positions. Chani has worked in several operational and healthcare delivery roles in medical and executive management including four previous roles as a leader in Information Technology. She has served as a Chief Information Officer, a Director of Human Resources, and as a Director of Managed Care and Payer Operations. She deployed to Iraq and conducted health care operations during the initial invasion. Chani is the talent manager consultant for the US Army Medical Service Corps Officers who are dedicated to the Health IT career field.
Chani Cordero is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), a Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer (CHCIO), Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM), Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and is an Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP). She received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from St. Mary’s University, holds a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Troy University along with a Master of Healthcare Administration from Baylor University. She is Level 3 certified in DAWIA Acquisition, Information Technology.
Chani is on the advisory board for Texas State University San Marcos for the Health Information Management program as well as the advisory board for American Public University for the Health Administration/Health Sciences program. In 2017, she was selected for the Army Medical Department Mercury Award, which is the Chief Information Officer of the Year. In 2018, Chani became a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit an inclusive organization that recognizes leaders that have had significant impact to the Army Medical Department. In 2018 Health Data Management listed Chani as one of the 30 Rising Stars in Healthcare IT. Lastly, Chani was awarded the 2019 Regent's Senior Healthcare Executive Leadership Award by the American College of Healthcare Executives and also the 2019 Regent at Large Diversity Award which is a recognition for individual contributions of enhancing diversity in healthcare management.
