Guillermina Altomonte is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Working at the intersections of medical sociology, organizations, and culture, she uses qualitative methods to study the changing organization of health care. Her doctoral research explores the transition of elder care from an institutional-based to a home- and community-based model in New York City. She has also conducted research on the emergence and growth of the assisted living industry in Chile, and on the comparative significance of cultural prescriptions of autonomy in care delivery for disabled and elderly adults.
Guillermina’s work has been published in American Sociological Review (2020) and Sociological Forum (2016), and supported by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (Chile), the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics, the Heilbroner Center for Capitalism Studies, and the Janey Program for Latin American Studies at The New School.
Guillermina earned her B.A. in Journalism from Universidad Católica de Chile and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from The New School for Social Research.
