Katie Magoon, MD, MSN, MPA, is a 2014 NYU Wagner Graduate, specializing in Health Policy and Management. Prior to her work at Wagner, she graduated from Carleton College with a B.A. in political science and international relations, the Yale School of Nursing with a M.S.N. Following her time at Wagner she earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020.
Katie gains her unique expertise in health policy from her clinical experience, in addition to her continued research interests. She worked as a nurse practitioner at an adolescent community center in Manhattan called The Door–A Center for Alternatives, and in Brooklyn at two adolescent HIV clinics where she provided Primary and HIV care to her patients.
Katie’s clinical work has strengthened her understanding of and exposure to health policy issues, which she continues to study. A recipient of the Celso-Ramón García award for excellent research in Women’s Health for her article on insurance adherence to the Affordable Care Act mandate for contraceptive coverage among adolescents, her research has been published in a variety of journals.
Katie loves spending as much time as possible with her son and two dogs. A trained boxer, she also volunteers at Rock Steady Boxing, an organization that teaches boxing to people with Parkinson’s Disease. Katie is very excited to be returning to Wagner as a lecturer.
