In July of 1997 Mount Sinai and NYU merged their respective hospitals and created a holding company entitled Mount Sinai NYU Health. As a result of the merger the Human Resource staffs were consolidated and in June 2000 move to a single corporate location. A Capstone team was asked to examine the current hiring process and identify some of the problems that arose from uniting the Human Resource function across all campuses. The Capstone team held interviews with administrators on both campuses and developed a survey that was distributed via e-mail to 530 employees hired within the last year. For the purposes of the survey the Capstone team defined the "hiring process" to mean from the first time an employee was contacted by a Human Resources representative through the receipt of their first paycheck. The Capstone team used data collected these interviews and surveys to determine critical factors that influence customer satisfaction levels stemming from the current hiring operation practices and made recommendations for improvements.
