Center for Vision Care Policy

Empirical research is a fundamental pillar upon which public policy is built. It is also a means for the evaluation of current policy and, if appropriately applied, the basis for change. This residency gave the student an opportunity to be part of that research process. The Center for Vision Care Policy is a small academic research center based in the State University of New York College of Optometry. The resident was presented with a variety of challenges faced by all researchers, from sourcing project funding and analyzing data, to writing papers for peer review and publication. The resident was expected to apply the skills he learned in statistics, policy analysis, and research to forge new ground in health care.
