Comprehensive Revitalization Plan for the North Shore of Staten Island
The Capstone team was asked to study and prepare a revitalization plan for the Kill Van Kull Waterfront on the North Shore of Staten Island. The one-mile waterfront study area was once home to a thriving maritime and heavy industrial manufacturing base that played a crucial role in the economy of New York. Today, like similar waterfront areas elsewhere, the North Shore of Staten Island has lost most of its industry and corresponding identity. The Capstone team began by analyzing existing conditions within the study area and then transitioned toward recommendations based on the following: community development, transportation improvements and waterfront opportunities. The Capstone team believes that this approach will enable economic renewal and regional interest in the study area.
