Sharsheret is a national nonprofit organization of Jewish breast cancer survivors that pairs young women facing breast cancer in their 20s, 30s, and 40s with volunteers who can share their experiences and provide a strong support network. Sharsheret requested a Capstone team evaluate the organization’s capacity to expand program services to meet the unique concerns of older Jewish women facing breast cancer in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. The team performed a needs assessment and proposed a service model. By examining existing operations, staff, and program and volunteer services, the team clarified Sharsheret’s operational infrastructure. In addition to the needs assessment, recommendations were based on literature reviews, phone and personal interviews, on-site observations, and a review of the organization’s documents and materials. The team documented their findings in a comprehensive report that details the impact of program expansion and proposals and strategies for the organization’s future growth.
