United Cerebral Palsy of New York City (UCP/NYC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to servicing individuals with developmental disabilities. Like many other service providers in this sector, UCP/ NYC is facing high employee turnover and is interested in making its compensation and benefits plan more competitive within their current funding parameters. In an effort to better understand the industry specific issues that influence recruitment and retention, the Capstone team conducted structured literature reviews and interviewed several competing organizations to understand how they were combating these issues. Furthermore, the Capstone team researched organizational recruitment and retention issues specific to UCP/NYC by examining four categories of employees that were of greatest concern to the organization. These included: direct care staff, maintenance workers, teachers and clinical staff. Based on its research, the Capstone team recommended several non-monetary alternatives and tools that UCP/ NYC can utilize toward addressing these issues.
