The Capstone team identified the history and nature of public-private partnerships internationally, with particular emphasis on the role of the United Nations and UNOPS in the support of the Global Compact, an initiative of the Secretary- General of the UN. The Global Compact seeks to engage UN agencies, the private sector, as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in a constructive global dialogue as well as practical outcome-oriented partnerships. Recognizing the complex challenges of today’s global society to achieve a sustainable socioeconomic development, and foster peace and security, the Capstone team analyzed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of public-private partnerships. The Capstone team also looked at selected case studies which provide standards, criteria, and guidelines which hold these partnerships accountable to their deliverables. Recommendations are given for the best logical methods and a substantive list of public-private partnership resources are provided to private and public sector partners and the public in general.
