Information Technology and City Services

The Citizens Budget Commission is a nonpartisan, nonprofit civic organization devoted to influencing constructive change in the finances and services of New York City and New York State government. The Capstone team was asked to identify an area in which government was incorporating information technology. The Capstone team evaluated the Electronic Kiosk program managed by the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT). The Capstone team examined the background and status of the program, provided a comparison study, and created policy alternatives. The team embraced the agency's plan to place an Electronic Kiosk offering a link to the New York City government web page (www.nyc.gov) in every community board office as a way to provide easy-to-use access to Internet-based city services to communities.
