Internal Communication and Committee Structure: Key Issues and Recommendations

Gouverneur is an expansive diagnostic and treatment center located in Manhattan’s Lower East Side serving patients within an ambulatory care capacity and a 210 bed Skilled Nursing Facility. Recently, executive management has identified communication gaps in its existing operational and committee structure and turned to the Capstone team for recommendations for improvement. In order to understand the scope of the organization’s proposal and provide feedback, the Capstone team conducted interviews, administered surveys, identified best practices through literature review, and audited various committee meetings. The information was then compiled and analyzed to create recommendations to improve efficiency, communication, and information sharing that support the mission and vision of the organization. The team proposed implementing a strategic communication plan, standardizing meeting agendas and minutes, as well as creating a sample committee charter.
