New York-Presbyterian Hospital Ambulatory Care Network
The resident had the opportunity to work with several managers at the Ambulatory Care Network (ACN) , which is clustered around Weill Cornell Medical Center and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. The residents projects spanned across the areas of strategic planning, performance improvement, and service line development. One of the residents long-term projects was to partner with the strategic planning department to decant the internal medicine department, which is currently located within the hospital, into the community. The possibilities for relocation include already existing ACN primary care clinics in the community as well as new real estate, and possibly a combination of the two. The resident performed an extensive productivity analysis on each site to see how much space is needed and where capacity exists. Preliminary recommendations included leaving the internal medicine sub-specialty portion of the practice in the hospital, along with visits that are triaged from the Emergency Department. Final recommendations for the bulk of the internal medicine practice are to be determined.
