The Resident was involved in day-to-day operations and many special projects for the Faculty Group Practice (FGP). A payer-mix analysis was developed and is used by practice managers to forecast payment and collection statistics for physician practices. The Resident worked with the Vice President of Managed Care evaluating and negotiating reimbursement rates and contracts between the NYU School of Medicine and managed care organizations. The Resident worked on-site at the new NYU Cancer Center for several weeks assisting the Salick consulting team during the Center’s initial launch. A great deal of time was spent conducting audits for the billing vendors used by physician practices. These audits helped the FGP recover several hundred thousand dollars in clinical fees for the physician practices. The Resident’s other projects included working with analysts and managers on department-wide initiatives such as fiscal year planning and organization. The Resident also worked on business plans for recruitment of new physicians.
