Capstone: Advanced Quantitative Research Projects in Data and Policy I

Course Description

Couples with CAP-GP.3149. As part of the core curriculum of the NYU Wagner Master's program, Capstone teams spend an academic year conducting research on a pressing social question. Wagner's Capstone program provides students with a centerpiece of their graduate experience, enabling them to experience first-hand the full research process. Under the guidance of an experienced faculty member, students will develop a research question, conduct a literature review, formulate hypotheses, identify relevant datasets, run analyses, and write up their findings. Students will also enhance key process skills, including project management and teamwork.

Prerequisites

MPA PNP students must complete the following in advance:
1. Complete all school-wide core
2. Complete PADM 2902 Statistical Methods II: Multiple Regression and Intro Econometrics
3. Complete one advanced economics course from the following list: PADM 2140 Public Economics, HPAM 4830 Health Economics: Principles, URPL 2608 Urban Economics, PADM 2203 Economics of International Development, or PADM 2441 Economics of Education*
4. Complete PADM 2171 Evaluating Programs and Policies*

MUP students must complete the following in advance:
1. Complete CORE 1018 Microeconomics and CORE 1011 Statistical Methods I from the school-wide core
2. Complete PADM 2902 Statistical Methods II: Multiple Regression and Intro Econometrics
3.  Complete three Urban Planning core courses, including URPL 2608 Urban Economics
4. Complete PADM 2171 Evaluating Programs and Policies*

MPA Health students must complete the following in advance:
1. Complete all school-wide core
2. Complete HPAM 1830 Introduction to Health Policy and Management or HPAM 2836 Topics in Health Policy
3. Complete HPAM 4830 Health Economics: Principles
4. Complete PADM 2902 Statistical Methods II: Multiple Regression and Intro Econometrics
5. Complete PADM 2171 Evaluating Programs and Policies*

(6.) International health students must also complete PADM 2201 Institutions, Governance, and International Development
