NYC 2025

NYC 2025 convenes non-partisan experts across a range of areas to hold an ongoing conversation about issues that must be addressed for the city to become a stronger and more equitable city than it was before COVID-19.

The first iteration of this conversation offers the public a series of policy proposals that explore issues centered around five priority areas, including:

  • Increasing the flexibility with which New York City responds to change with writings exploring New York City’s tax system and how leaders can keep the city competitive, how land use and zoning might be reformed in response to both recent and long-term threats, and how public pension funds might be directed to benefit all its residents.
  • Prioritizing inclusivity and equality in the city’s economic growth, with writings exploring the significance of economic recovery intentionally coupled with equity, and how the city contracts with nonprofits and community-based organizations can be improved to ensure better service delivery.
  • Restoring and boosting how the City can improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers, with writings exploring how the city can address homelessness, what the city can do to make nonprofits better providers of services addressing quality of life concerns, how the city can remove constraints that impede housing development and affordability, and how the city can implement criminal justice reforms that balance safety with protecting communities from potential abuses.

  • Finding the most efficient uses possible for the city budget, with writings exploring how the city can better use data and technology to improve management and policies, what mechanisms the city has to address such concerns, and how the city can make it easier for business and people to navigate and access government.
