The growth of cesarean delivery in China the focus of health policy discussion

Professor Jian-meng Liu of Peking University visited NYU Wagner on April 3 to talk about the growth of cesarean delivery in China, and the consequences for long-term child health. Professor Liu, who directs China’s Office of National Maternal & Child Health Statistics, has followed Chinese regional and national trends in cesarean delivery for more than two decades. His recent research suggests a link between cesarean delivery and child health outcomes such as obesity, asthma, and anemia.

The event featuring Professor Liu was hosted by Wagner Professors Jan Blustein (pictured at right with Liu) and Leo Trasande, who collaborate with the team from Bejing on research in child and maternal health. Liu’s research-focused talk was attended by Wagner MPA students in health policy and management, as well as members of the wider NYU community.
