In Memoriam: Professor Richard Brodsky
NYU Wagner has lost a highly valued member of our community—former New York State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky, who died on April 8, 2020. A “champion of the state Legislature,” as Politico memorialized him, he had an outstanding career as a public servant serving the citizens of Westchester County and New York State from 1983 to 2010. Richard stood out as a reform-minded committee chair in Albany. After leaving politics in 2010, he was a Public Service Fellow and an Adjunct Faculty Member at NYU Wagner. Inspiring and witty, Richard readily shared his deep knowledge of politics, governance, and public authorities in his classes, at public forums, and in small gatherings with other faculty members over the course of a decade. Above all, Richard was an impassioned believer in the importance of well-run state governmental and nonprofit institutions, and a tribune on behalf of so many building careers of their own in public service. We share his commitment, and honor his legacy. Our faculty, administrators, students, and alumni send our deepest condolences to his wife, Paige, and their two daughters.
