City & State released its 2024 Above & Beyond: Social Services list, recognizing individuals in New York State and the metropolitan area who prioritize the well-being of their communities. A pair of NYU Wagner alumni were selected:

  • Richard Brown (MPA-PNP 2002), director of housing development, IMPACCT Brooklyn
  • Jody Rudin (MPA-PNP 2003), president and CEO, Institute for Community Living

At IMPACCT Brooklyn, Brown focuses on funding housing for vulnerable populations, namely people with chronic illnesses or substance abuse and low-income seniors. Recently, Brown financed $38 million in Section 8 housing for homeless seniors, part of $1 billion in housing Brown has financed since becoming a Brooklyn community organizer.

In her role for the Institute for Community Living—an organization that integrates healthcare, housing, and social services for more than 13,000 New Yorkers—Rudin has grown the budget by 25% and launched the organization’s first affordable housing unit, among more than a dozen other programs she’s added.
