NYU Wagner’s Professor Vanessa Deane is Awarded AICP Certification
NYU Wagner is pleased to congratulate Vanessa L. Deane, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Urban Planning & Public Service, for earning her American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification, a rigorous credential signaling her deep knowledge of planning. Dr. Deane stands out as one of a very few number of faculty nationwide who are both PhD, AICP.
Dr. Deane is Director of the Master of Urban Planning (MUP) degree program at Wagner. Her research praxis is rooted in the political economy of climate change and disasters, primarily in small island developing states. At present, she is researching the adaptive capacity of select francophone nations through a climate justice framework.
Her prior work includes a comprehensive analysis of Haiti’s institutional development challenges, further accentuated by the earthquake of 2010. She received the 2021-22 Outstanding Decentralization Paper Award for Latin American and the Caribbean for this contribution, and, among other accolades, was Wagner’s Professor of the Year in 2020.
AICP certification is the only nationwide, independent verification of planners’ qualifications. It marks the much-deserved culmination of Dr. Deane’s work in planning, demonstrating as well her dedication to ethics as embodied in the AICP Code of Ethics.
