Prof. Thad Calabrese Named to Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council
Thad Calabrese, Associate Professor of Public and Nonprofit Financial Management, NYU Wagner, has been appointed to serve on the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC) effective January 1, 2018.
The GASAC advises the Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) on technical issues, project priorities, and other matters that affect standards-setting for accounting and financial reporting by state and local governments. It is the job of the GASB to establish the “Generally Accepted Accounting Principles,” or GAAP, to which financial reporting by US state and local governments must conform and keep those principles current.
Members of the GASAC are chosen from a cross-section of the GASB’s state and local government stakeholders, including users, preparers, and auditors of financial information. GASAC members are selected on the basis of their professional expertise and the depth and variety of experience they bring to their work on the Council. The current chair is former Iowa State Auditor David A. Vaudt.
Four other GASAC members were named at the same time as Calabrese, including: Peggy Arrivas, Associate Vice President and System-Wide Controller, University of California; Paul Kwiatkoski, Managing Director, Kroll Bond Rating Agency; Angus Maciver, Director, Montana Legislative Audit Division; and Terry Patton, Distinguished Professor of Accounting, Dillard College of Business Administration, Midwestern State University. The members serve two-year terms and are eligible to be reappointed for up to two additional consecutive terms
