Release of NYU Wagner Capstone report calls for change to Brooklyn transportation corridor
On August 27, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams held a press conference featuring a report completed by a Capstone team including students Sebastian Coss, Brent Ginsberg, Caroline Peri, and Eftihia Thomopoulos (all MUP 2018), and supervised by Adjunct Assistant Professor of Urban Planning Michael Keane. The report entitled PX Forward advocated for design changes to the Prospect Expressway that would address a range of concerns, particularly the themes of safety, connectivity, greening, and identity.
The Borough President's office is using the report as the foundation for a request to the New York State Department of Transportation to support additional research and a design competition following the vision recommended by the Capstone study. Monday's press conference also featured addresses from State Assemblymember Robert Carroll, State Senator Kevin Parker, and a representative from Councilman Brad Lander's Office, as well as Brent Ginsberg representing NYU Wagner. Eric Adams noted the history of NYU Wagner making a difference in the borough, referencing the Fourth Avenue development plan in Brooklyn and its origins as a Capstone project as well.
