In alignment with Hispanic Heritage Month, City & State released its 2024 Power of Diversity: Latino 100, recognizing the “most influential Latino leaders in New York politics and government.”

Notably, seven NYU Wagner alumni were selected for the list.

11. Jessica González-Rojas (MPA 2003), New York State Assembly Member
After leading the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, González-Rojas took office in 2020 and has since focused on furthering family-friendly policies and criminal justice reform.

25. Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez (MPA 1983) and  Lisa Flores (MPA 2001), New York City mayoral appointees
Former New York secretary of state Cortés-Vásquez now serves as commissioner of the New York City Department of Aging, partnering with community organizations and working to combat food insecurity for seniors and elder abuse. As the city’s chief procurement officer, Flores’s role in the mayor’s office involves overseeing billions of dollars in government contracts.

49. Camille Rivera (EMPA 2018), partner, New Deal Strategies
As a partner at a consulting firm that works to advocate for women, people of color, the working class, and the LGBTQ+ community, Rivera helped secure the reelection of Sen. Gustavo Rivera, despite a popular challenger in the Democratic primary.

74. Rebecca Miller (MPA 2019), New York State legislative and political director, Communications Workers of America District 1
Since joining this impactful union, which represents workers across a number of sectors, Miller has pushed advocacy on a number of issues, including nursing staffing ratios.

81. Yvette Bairan (MPA 1994), CEO, Astor Services
Bairan rose to CEO of Astor Services, which provides services to children and families, just before the pandemic, during which she furthered the organization’s work of aiding children’s increasingly complex mental health and social needs.
